St. Thomas Volleyball Earns Spot in Conference Final

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The third seeded St. Thomas University women’s volleyball team
defeated Webber International 3-1 (25-13, 25-19, 25-23) on Friday night at the ICI Center.
 
The Bobcats, under the helm of Sun Conference Coach of the Year Callaway Mefford, were led by first-team All-Conference selections Taylor Allgeier and Nicole McInnis.  Allgeier was responsible for 26 kills, while McInnis had 19 kills, 20 digs, an ace, a block and an assist.  Freshman setter Sydney Maynard led all players with 58 assists, while serving two aces.
 
After splitting the first two sets, the Warriors led set three 24-22 with multiple game-point opportunities on their side.  The Bobcats rallied with four straight points to win the set 26-24 on back-to-back kills by McInnins and Felecia Gonzales, a block by McInnins and Alexis Nicholls and a game-winning service ace by Maynard.
 
Up 2-1, the Bobcats won seven of the last ten points of the fourth set to win the match.  Match point came on a kill by Nicholls off a Maynard assist.
 
St. Thomas will meet the sixth-ranked and top-seeded Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday afternoon in The Sun Conference championship match at 2 p.m. at the ICI Center.
