THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University men’s soccer team alumnus Rowan Liburd has signed a two-year contract with the Reading Football Club.

Prior to his signing, the former Night Hawk was a standout scoring 22 goals for Billericay Town F.C. in the Isthmian League Premier Division last season.

“I am extremely honored with this opportunity.  Thomas University holds a special place in my heart and was the foundation to my success,” stated Liburd.  “Over time, I have been able to really push forward with my career and believe TU helped me develop both as a player and a man.”

During his collegiate playing career, Liburd spent four years as a varsity letter winner for the Night Hawk soccer team. The Croydon, England, native netted 44 goals in 73 games of play.  Liburd tallied 102 career points adding 14 assists as a midfielder.

Liburd continued, “I'd like to thank the whole athletic program, soccer staff, and all the players past and present for being a part of my journey. I'd especially like to thank Coach Zambrano for coaching and mentoring me through my collegiate years and after.”

In 2013, Liburd helped lead the Night Hawks to the program's first ever Sun Conference Tournament Championship and appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, also a first for the program. He finished the season with 16 goals and seven assists, being named the TSC's Conference Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American.  During his four seasons, Liburd was selected for many honors for his time on the pitch.  He received Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) First Team (2011) and Second Team (2010) All-Conference Honors, Sun Conference First Team All-Conference Honors (2012 and 2013), NSCAA/Continental Tire NAIA Men’s All-East Region Team (2011 and 2013), and NAIA All-American honorable mention (2011 and 2013).  The midfielder was also named to the 2014 Tourbeau Sports NAIA All-Star Team.

“We are extremely happy for Rowan,” stated TU’s head men’s soccer coach Ricky Zambrano.  “This is a great example of perseverance. Many clubs, both in the United States and abroad, said no before this opportunity arose.  He deserves this opportunity.”

Liburd looks to develop and make an immediate impact with the Royals in the near future.
