Keiser, Warner For the Men's Basketball Championship
The Sun Conference Men’s Basketball Championship game is set. Top-seeded and #7 Keiser will host second seeded #10 Warner Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
The #7 and top seed in the conference tournament Keiser University defeated #4 seed Johnson & Wales 79-58 in the first semifinals.
How it Happened
- Keiser led 8-7 when a Stanley Whittaker three pointer sparked an 11-2 run stretching their advantage to 19-9 with 12:43 remaining in the first half.
- Johnson & Wales closed to within 22-14 when a Tyrus Weaver jumper in the paint began a 14-2 push extending the lead to 36-16 with 3:59 to go in the half.
- With the score 39-24, the Seahawks ended the half on a 5-0 run taking a 44-24 lead into halftime.
- Keiser shot 53 percent from the field while connecting on ten three pointers. Andrija Sarenac had a team high three in that time.
- The Wildcats got the closest all half at 55-38 with 11:16 to play but back to back threes by Weaver pushed the margin to 61-38.
- The Seahawks continued to cruise from their going on to win by a final of 79-58.
- Stanley Whittaker led the way with 25 points and 6 assists for Keiser.
- Ricardo Suarez had 16 points to pace Johnson & Wales.
The #2 seed and #10 team in the NAIA Warner University defeated #4 seed St. Thomas 87-57 in the second semifinals.
How it Happened
- St. Thomas led 10-7, when an AJ Lamb layup started a 21-3 run to go in front 27-13 with 7:52 to go in the half.
- The Bobcats answered with a 16-4 stretch getting to within 31-29 with 2:22 left but Warner went into the half on top 35-32.
- The Royals started on a 7-0 run while outscoring St. Thomas 13-3 and limiting them to just one field over the first eight minutes.
- St. Thomas got as close as 55-41 when a 13-2 run extended the Royals advantage to 68-43 with 7:22 remaining in regulation.
- Warner continued to build on their lead going on to win by a final of 87-57.
- Eddie Delegal (14 points, 12 rebounds), and Warren Hall (19 points, 10 rebounds) recorded double-doubles for Warner.
- Armand Shoon had a team high 15 points for St. Thomas.
Warner vs. Keiser
Keiser won both meetings this season including a 65-59 win on the road in the NAIA Game of the Week and a double overtime thriller at home 92-89.
