SCAD Cruises to Fourth Consecutive Men’s Cross Country Title

LAKELAND, Fla.—The top five runners for SCAD Savannah all crossed the finish line within 92 seconds of each other, and all placed in the top 10 to power the Bees to their fourth consecutive conference title in men’s cross country, scoring 29 points.
Freshman of the Year and overall champion Bernhard Obrecht’s torrid 5:19 pace was no match for the rest of the field, besting teammate Max Groff by 19 seconds. Obrecht’s time of 26:27 was six seconds faster than the 2015 winning time the last time The Sun Conference Championship was held at Holloway Park.
The Bees also placed freshman Levi Bryant on the All-Sun Conference First Team in seventh place in a time of 27:53.
St. Thomas was second with a score of 82. Freshman George Kimutai and sophomore Diego Lopez placed third and sixth, respectively and both earned individual bids to the NAIA National Championship. Kimutai covered the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26:55.
Southeastern placed third with 87 points with sophomore Jordan Gonzalez and freshman Christopher Pinedo both earning second team honors, placing eighth and 11
th.
Junior Gabriel Hogan of Ave Maria secured a bid to nationals with a fifth-place finish in a time of 27:31. The Gyrenes won a sixth-runner tiebreaker with USCB for fourth place as freshman David Northrup checked in with a 42
nd place finish, 1:17 ahead of the sixth runner for the Sand Sharks.
Webber International senior Sean Trainor also will head to nationals following a fourth-place finish in a time of 27:04.
Patrick Reagan of SCAD Savannah was named Coach of the Year in guiding the Bees to the title.
