The Sun Conference released its 2018 men’s tennis honors at the annual conference tournament banquet, held by Coastal Georgia.

Regular season champion, Keiser placed all six of its starters on the two all-conference teams for the second straight season. Vicente Lagos, Arthur Bonnaud, Nicolas Guerschanik, Adrian Frutos, and Marc Algeri earned First Team honors for the Seahawks. The first team also included; Matt Hulme of Coastal Georgia, Hugo Hasegawa of Webber, and Kevin Cubela of St. Thomas.

Keiser University sophomore Vicente Lagos was named The Sun Conference Player of the Year. Lagos hails from Santiago Chile and was 6-1 in conference action. On the year, he was 14-4 overall out of the top spot and is currently third in the ITA rankings. He also teamed with Arthur Bonnaud in the second doubles spot with a 12-3 overall and 7-0 mark in conference play.

Lagos and Bonnaud of Keiser were named the Doubles Team of the Year, racking up a 12-3 overall record this season. They were a perfect 7-0 in Sun Conference matches.

Matt Hulme of Coastal Georgia earned Freshman of the Year honors as the only Mariner with an undefeated record in the spring, 15-0. Hulme went 7-0 during the spring, including a win over the newly named TSC Player of the Year, Vicente Lagos. He plays all his matches in the top spot and is currently ranked No. 2 in the ITA rankings.

Daniel Finn was selected as The Sun Conference Coach of the Year, guiding the Seahawks to their third straight regular season championship. Finn led Keiser to a 13-6 overall record, including a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play. Finn guided the Seahawks to a current ranking of No. 2 in the NAIA poll, the highest ever in program history.

Mauricio Fernandez of St. Thomas earned Champion of Character for the conference. Fernandez is a team player and a true C of C. He is always out on the court grinding at practice and pushing his teammates to be the best they can be, on and off the court. He always displays sportsmanship and was involved in community service and extracurricular activities through the semester including the Puerto Rico relief and Xglosive, a USTA charity event. At No. 1 doubles, he has shown he can be a great leader and it is a pleasure to call him a Bobcat.

A total of 16 players were selected to the Academic All-Conference team. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with two semesters complete at their institution, and carry a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale. SCAD-Savannah and Southeastern led the league with four recipients each.
