USCB Claims 2018 Sun Conference Men’s Golf Championship
 
PLANTATION, Fla. (April 24, 2018) – Trailing by eight strokes entering the final day of the 2018 Sun Conference Men’s Golf Championship, the USCB Sand Sharks shot a nine-under (279) to claim this year’s league title from the Plantation Preserve Golf Course & Club (par 72, 7,021 yards).
 
USCB topped the leader board with an 11-under 853, followed by tournament runner-up Keiser (278-288-288, 854). Coastal Georgia (289-292-281, 862), Johnson & Wales (286-297-287, 870) and Southeastern (306-294-287, 887) rounded out the top five.  
 
USCB (287-287-279, 853) finished the tournament 11-under after three-straight days under par. The Sand Sharks were led by Newport Laparojkit, this year’s conference player of the year, with a three-under, 213 (72-71-70). Laparojkit finished tied for third on the overall leaderboard followed by Bobby Dunphy (tied for sixth), Jack Faraci (tied for ninth), Keith Murphy (12^th) and Marc Sweeney (tied 17^th) to round out the Shan Shark lineup. Dunphy shot a one-under par (69-73-73, 215) while Faraci carded an even par (72-79-65, 216), Murphy scored a two-over (74-73-71, 218) and Marc Sweeney notched a five-over (75-70-76, 221). Faraci’s third-day round of 65 was a tournament low during the event.
 
Coastal Georgia’s Mark David Johnson claimed medalist honors, carding a 7-under par for the weekend. Johnson, an all-conference selection, battled Kesier’s Jack Dyer on the final day as Dyer entered Tuesday’s action with a one-stroke lead over Coastal’s top player. Johnson used a three-under (69) third round to take a one-stroke lead over Dyer. Johnson took the one-stroke lead following a birdie on Hole No. 17.  On 18, both players parred the final hole of the tournament to give Johnson the title.
