SCAD Holds Off USCB for 2018 TSC Women’s Golf Championship Win

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Bees of SCAD Savannah held off a battling University of South Carolina Beaufort to come out on top of the 2018 Sun Conference Women’s Championships.
 
The Bees shot a 300 (+12) on day three to maintain the lead and earn the win over the Sand Sharks with a three-round final score of 911 (+47). USCB put up a fight as they posted the lowest round of the tournament with a score of 294 (+6). The Sand Sharks remained in second with a three-day score of 918 (+54). This is SCAD’s first win since 2014.
 
SCAD’s Paulina Camacho won the first individual title of her career with a combined score of 223 (+7). The senior shot a 73 (+1), 76 (+4) and a 74 (+2) over the three days. Keiser’s Samantha Fuller was the runner-up with a three-round total of 224 (+8). USCB’s Emily Turner shot the lowest round of the tournament with an even 72 on day three.
 
At the end of round one, SCAD had a seven stroke lead over the Seahawks. The Bees shot a 307 (+19) while the Keiser totaled 314 (+26). Paulina Camacho and Samantha Fuller were tied for first with a score of 73 (+1).
 
SCAD increased its lead to 13 strokes at the end of round two with a combined score of 611 (+35). USCB took over the second-place spot with a two-round score of 624 (+48) while Keiser finished day two in third (627). Paulina Camacho maintained her individual lead with a day two score of 76 (+4) while SCAD’s Corinne Grans-Wood and Keiser’s Michaela Fabiankova tied for the lowest score for the round with a 74 (+2).
 
At the conclusion of the three-day tournament, The Sun Conference honored athletes with a luncheon and the Conference Awards were announced. Fifteen student-athletes were named to the All-Conference with SCAD and Keiser earning the most nods with five players each.
 
Michaela Fabiankova, a freshman from Keiser, was named the 2018 Player of the Year. Coming into this tournament, Fabiankova, boasted a scoring average of 75.46 with a 75.10 adjusted average. She is ranked No. 7 in NAIA Golfstat and has two tournament wins this season.


Samantha Fuller was voted as the 2018 Rookie of the Year. The freshman boasts a 74.83 scoring average with a 73.41 adjusted average and is ranked No. 1 in NAIA Golfstat.
 
Kylee Wheeler from the College of Coastal Georgia was voted this year’s Champion of Character. The freshman from Waycross, Georgia volunteers two hours a month at the nursing home, she helps with junior golf camps at her home course, crochets baby blankets for orphans and lap blankets for chemo patients. Kylee has also cooked for the beloved single mom’s organization and, earned NHS and Beta hours in high school and volunteers at the RSM classic.
 
SCAD’s Amanda Workman was named the 2018 Coach of the Year.


USCB earned the most Academic All-Conference awards with six individuals being recognized. To earn Academic All-Conference honors, a student-athlete must have completed two full semesters at her college or university and have earned a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 GPA scale.
