MIAMI, Fla. (November 19, 2020) – The Sun Conference announced on Thursday its award winners for the 2020 women’s soccer season.
Keiser’s
Maja Henriksson was named the Sun Conference Player of the Year. Garnering First-Team All-Sun Conference honors for the second-straight year, Henriksson started all 12 games for the Seahawks. The native of Gothenburg, Sweden, scored seven goals and seven assists for 21 points. Henriksson anchored a defense that has posted five shutouts. She has registered two game-winning goals during the 2020 season.
Southeastern’s
Anne-Clara Couturier was named the Sun Conference Freshman of the Year. A Second-Team All-Sun Conference selection, Couturier registered eight goals and one assist for 18 points. She is currently tied for fifth in the conference in goals scored and is eighth in the league in points per game (1.55). The native Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, notched two game-winning goals, appearing in 10 games for the Fire, starting in nine.
Ave Maria’s
Tyler Rosser was named the Sun Conference Coach of the Year. In his fourth season with Gyrenes, Rosser guided Ave Maria to 4-5 mark in Sun Conference action and the No. 3 seed in the 2020 Sun Conference Women’s Soccer Championship. The 2020 season marked a first in the Gyrene’s women’s soccer program, earning the first-ever home conference tournament game.
Warner’s
Rachel DeWeerd was named the Sun Conference Champion of Character. DeWeerd leads and organizes team bonding and team service projects. She is involved and leads a 'small group' on the Warner campus that talks about faith, emotional and social health. DeWeerd has done lots of volunteer work around campus and outside of campus (labor on campus, helping to serve departments, volunteering for Christmas Child Foundations). She has helped with a chili cookout and food drive to support children and adults with special needs in the local community
