2020-21 Sun Conference Men’s Basketball Award Winners Announced

MIAMI, Fla. (February 25, 2021) – The Sun Conference announced on Thursday its award winners for the 2020-21 men’s basketball season.

Warner’s Rod Boggan was named the Sun Conference Player of the Year. The second-year Royal and two-time all-conference selection led Warner, averaging 18.0 points per game (No. 2 in the conference) on 42.2 percent shooting from the floor. Named the Sun Conference Player of the Week twice during the 2020-21 season, Boggan led the conference in free-throw percentage (85.5 percent – No. 24 in the nation) and averaged 3.3 assists per game (No. 2 in the league). Appearing in 21 games this season, the native of Lakeland, Florida, reached double-figures in scoring 20 times, including a career-high 31 points at Southeastern (1/28).

Warner’s Logan West was named the Sun Conference Freshman of the Year. The first-year Royal finished third on the team in scoring (13.0 points per game), leading all TSC freshmen in scoring average. Appearing in 24 game for the Royals, shot 52.1 percent from the floor and was 66.3 percent from the charity stripe (No. 13 in the conference). West reached double-figures in scoring 17 times this season, including a career-high 27 points versus Keiser (1/7). Averaging 6.2 rebounds per contest, notched a team-best four double-doubles in 2020-21.

Warner’s Sean Hanrahan was named the Sun Conference Rollie Massimino Coach of the Year.
In his 14th season with the Royals, Hanrahan guided Warner to a 15-5 mark in Sun Conference play, earning the regular season crown and the top seed in this year’s men’s basketball tournament. It marked the second regular season title for WU under Hanrahan. As the winningest coach in Warner history (both percentage and win total), Hanrahan collected his 300th victory in the Royals opening round victory over Southeastern.

Southeastern’s Devon Ford was named the Sun Conference Champion of Character. Ford has been a leader on the Fire squad and on the SEU campus to affect real change surrounding issues of social injustice and inequality. He was a foundational member of a student-athlete committee that was developed and continues to address areas of inequality and injustice on campus. Ford developed and led his team through a variety of initiatives this year including, 100 percent voter registration, constructive meetings with the Polk County Sheriff, representing his team in meetings with administrators, initiating Black History Month events as well as the “Can You See Me” movement on the Southeastern team and campus.  In a year where the results on the court were not what had been hoped for, Ford worked incredibly hard to produce results in areas that are far more lasting.  He continues to work to impact lasting change, represent the University with class, and be a light to everyone that he has an opportunity to interact with. He is currently working on his Global MBA degree.
