2020-21 Sun Conference Women’s Golf Award Winners Announced

MIAMI, Fla. (April 30, 2021) – The Sun Conference announced on Friday its award winners for the 2020-21 women’s golf season.
 
Keiser’s Michela Tjan was named the Sun Conference Golfer of the Year. The sophomore from Jakarta, Indonesia, claimed two tournament titles this season. Ranked No. 2 in the latest GolfStat NAIA women’s player rankings, Tjan, a two-time TSC Golfer of the Week, registered a season stroke average of 74.40 in 25 rounds of action. Notching eight rounds of at-par or under, the 2020-21 All-Sun Conference selection secured a top-10 finish in eight of the team’s nine tournaments. 
 
Southeastern’s Danielle Owens was named the Sun Conference Freshman of the Year. The first freshman in Southeastern program history to make the all-conference team, Owens is currently ranked 12th nationally in the latest GolfStat NAIA women’s player rankings and is third among freshmen. The Orlando native has recorded a season-stroke average of 76.40 in nine tournaments this season, posting eight top-five finishes.
 
Southeastern’s Steve Phelps was named the Sun Conference Coach of the Year. In his 12th season as the head coach for the Fire, Phelps has guided SEU to a No. 4 ranking in the most-recent NAIA Women’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 (April 23) and the No. 2 seed in this year’s upcoming Sun Conference Women’s Golf Championships. The Fire finished in the top three in all nine of the team’s events during the 2020-21 season, including four first-place finishes.
 
Coastal Georgia’s Megan Ramer was named the Sun Conference Champion of Character. Ramer has volunteered for the past four years with the Jones Cup and the RSM Classic as well as with PGA of America. Ramer has also volunteered with the First Tee of Golden Isles for over a year.  She has given golf lessons to younger athletes to help grow their game. Plus, she Megan has always been a person that the team can count on as she is the first to volunteer for any school activity, athletic activity or team activity. She is the first to help out if there is a problem. Ramer is a person that her teammates can confide in; her kindness has inspired her teammates and everyone around her.
