MIAMI, Fla. (February 23, 2022) – The 2021-22 All-Sun Conference Women’s Basketball Teams were announced on Wednesday as voted on by the league’s nine head coaches. This year’s teams feature 10 first-team selections and 10 second-team honorees.
Overall, eight different schools placed at least one player among the group of 20 that make up the first- and second-team all-conference units. This year’s teams are comprised of five graduate students, six seniors, four juniors, one sophomore, and four freshmen.
Southeastern led all teams with six all-conference honorees, including first-team selections
Angela Perry, and
Leilah Vigil. Webber International had three all-conference honorees led by first-teamers
Jaida Burgess,
Leandra Franklin, and
Eletra Graham.
Jasmine Edwards and
Chanelle McDonald from Warner were named to the first team along with Ave Maria’s
Lavariah Armstead, Florida Memorial’s
Aliyah-Deen Ahmad, and St. Thomas’
Kasey Gagan.
The Sun Conference Specialty Awards for Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Champion of Character will be announced Thursday.
The semifinals of the 2022 Sun Conference Women’s Basketball Championship will take place on Friday, February 25, from the Furnace in Lakeland, Florida. Semifinal number one, featuring the top-seeded Southeastern Fire versus Ave Maria will begin at 5:00 p.m. Game two, featuring second-seeded Webber International versus Florida Memorial is slated to begin at 7:15 p.m.
