MIAMI, Fla. (February 24, 2023) – The Sun Conference announced its award winners for the 2022-23 men’s basketball season on Friday.
Southeastern’s
Riley Minix was named the Sun Conference Player of the Year for the second-straight season. A leader, on and off the court, Minix averaged 23 points per game (No. 1 in the conference) and 13.7 rebounds per game (No. 1 in the conference) to go along with two blocks per game (No. 1 in the conference) and 2.7 assists per game. Shooting 58 percent from the field, Minix totaled 11 double-doubles as the Fire finished the regular season at No. 1.
Warner’s
Christian Nurse was named the Sun Conference Freshman of the Year. With a field goal percentage of 55.2 percent and 8.1 rebounds per game, Nurse is third in the conference in both categories. The Freshman totaled eight double-doubles this season and led all Freshmen in multiple categories.
Thomas’s
Colin Cotter was named the Rollie Massimino Coach of the Year. In his first year at the helm of the Night Hawks, Cotter led his team to an overall record of 18-7 and a SUN record of 11-5, placing Thomas No. 3 in the conference heading into the postseason.
Thomas’s
Jordan Booker was named the Sun Conference Champion of Character. Booker is a graduate student with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.6, earning a 4.0 in the Fall. Booker is Pursuing a Master's in the Art of Teaching with a focus on Elementary Education, placing him in elementary classrooms teaching 30-40 hours a week. He is in Goal-Line Ministries, similar to Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and one of Thomas University Faculty and Staff’s favorite students on campus.
