Football Players of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week
13937

Darrin Van Horn, Ave Maria

Senior | Lexington, Ky. | Defensive Back

Notes: DJ Van Horn scored twice Saturday against the Florida Memorial Lions. His first score was a blocked PAT and return for a two-point conversion, the first in AMU history since 2021. That return sparked a 26-point comeback for the Gyrenes, the largest in AMU history. The comeback was capped with Van Horn's second score of the night, an 83-yard pick-six to put Ave Maria on top 37-33. Senior nights are always special, but this one was extra special for the senior defensive back.

The second was a blocked field goal which kept the deficit at 10 in the third quarter and helped the Gyrenes keep their comeback going.
