WIU’s Dr. Elfie Farchmin Named Sun Conference FAR of the Year

TAMPA, Fla. (July 1, 2020) – On Wednesday, the Sun Conference announced its 2019-2020 Faculty Athletics Representative of the Year honoree.
 
This year’s winner is Webber International FAR Dr. Elfie Farchmin. Dr. Farchmin will be put forward by the league, joining the TSC Team of Character and the previous 10 announced, in consideration for the respective NAIA National Awards that will be announced in mid-September.
 
“I am very honored and humbled by the vote of my fellow FAR’s in The Sun Conference,” said Dr. Farchmin. “I appreciate their confidence in my role as the FAR and enjoy working with them in our conference.”

Previously, Dr. Farchmin was honored with the NAIA’s Wally Schwartz Faculty Athletics Representative of the Year Award for the 2015-16 academic year.

Dr. Elfie Farchmin is an associate professor at Webber International University where she teaches both undergraduate and graduate-level classes in the sport management department. She also fills the roles of eligibility chair, and Associate Dean of Title IX Compliance at Webber, and is the eligibility chair for The Sun Conference as well.
 
“Dr. Farchmin’s dedication to our student-athletes and staff not only at Webber but within The Sun Conference over the years has been remarkable.” WIU Director of Athletics Darren Richie said. “She loves helping others and is the definition of a true servant leader.”
 
She graduated with her doctorate from Florida State University in sports administration. Prior to her time at FSU, Dr. Farchmin attended Transylvania University where she competed in both field hockey (three-time MVP, one-time all-state) and basketball (one-time MVP).
 
"We are incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Farchmin as a part of The Sun Conference and she is certainly a deserved honoree to be recognized by her peers with this award,” Sun Conference Commissioner Dustin Wilke said. “She has served so many student-athletes not only at Webber International but throughout our conference for a number of years, and we congratulate her on receiving this renowned accolade.”
