Sun Conference Softball Players of the Week – Week Five

MIAMI, Fla. (March 8, 2021) – Ave Maria’s Marisa Michi (Player) and Southeastern’s Payton Thomas (Pitcher) have been named the Sun Conference Softball Players of the Week for the week ending March 7.

Marisa Michi – Ave Maria – FR – Chicago, Illinois
Michi was the lead run producer this week for the Gyrenes, hitting nearly .500 and driving in 14 runs over eight games. The freshman hit three home runs on the week, including two in a victory over No. 7 Mobile. One of Michi's three homers was a three-run shot that gave the Gyrenes the lead in the sixth inning over Mobile. She drove in at least one run in six of eight games this week, and hit safely in seven of eight.
This is Michi’s first TSC weekly award of the season and the first of her career.

Payton Thomas – Southeastern – SO – Clermont, Florida
Thomas earned three wins in as many appearances last week and only allowed one run in 14.1 innings of work. She threw 5.1 innings in relief against No. 7 Mobile and allowed just one unearned on five hits to keep her team in the game. The sophomore went the distance in a 3-2 win over Faulkner with one earned on four hits, and limited Williams Baptist to an unearned run on one hit in two innings out of the bullpen.
This is Thomas’ first TSC weekly award of the season and the first of her career.
