2022 Sun Conference Women’s Flag Football Award Winners Announced

MIAMI, Fla. (April 29, 2022) – The Sun Conference announced on Friday its award winners for the 2022 women’s flag football season as voted on by the league’s six head coaches.

Warner’s Cynthia Homs was named this year’s Sun Conference Player of the Year. The first-year Royal was a three-time Sun Conference Player of the Week, caught 122 passes for 1,450 yards and 25 touchdowns. She also produced one rushing touchdown. A two-way player, Homs registered 123 falg pulls and seven interceptions, including one for a touchdown.

Thomas’ Kiana Acol was selected as this year’s Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Year. The native of Crestview, Florida, accounted over 800 yards of total offense for the Night Hawks. Playing at quarterback, running back, and wide receiver, Acol guided TU to a 13-1 overall record and the Sun Conference regular season crown in the team’s first season (9-1).

Thomas’ Janae Scott was named this year’s Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Year. The sophomore from Tallahassee, Florida, recorded a team-high 71 flag pulls. She also tallied three interceptions with two returns for a touchdown. Scott anchored a defense that registered four shutouts and posted the best record in the Sun Conference (9-1).

Thomas’ Chelsea Parmer was selected the Sun Conference Coach of the Year honoree. In the first year of the program, Thomas claimed the Sun Conference regular season title with a 9-1 record. Overall the Nights Hawks posted a 13-1 mark. Under Parmer, TU shut out four opponents while defeating both teams that played for last year’s national championship (Ottawa and Keiser).

Keiser’s Kennedy Foster was named the Sun Conference Champion of Character Award recipient. Foster is a true example of Champion of Character. She maintains a 3.41 GPA in sports management. She often deflects credit to her teammates and wants her teammates to be as successful as her if not more. She does while holding a job and volunteering to help coach a local high school flag football team here in Palm Beach County. Nick Saban says “Your character is your accumulation of your thoughts, habits and priorities on a day-to-day basis.” Kennedy is great athlete who has even better character.
