MIAMI, Fla. (June 15, 2023) - The Sun Conference (SUN) has announced Paul Dodson, from Keiser University, the 2022-23 Sports Information Director of the Year on Thursday afternoon. This honor is voted among the league's sport information directors. This is Dodson’s second career honor in the conference, the first time being at Johnson and Wales (2018-19) and now for the first time at Keiser. This is the first time Keiser has had an SID receive the honor. It is just the third time since the award was introduced in 2013-14 that an SID has earned the honor twice.
“It is a great privilege to present Paul with this award. The quality of his work speaks for itself and, having positively and professionally represented The Sun Conference in a number of ways throughout his career, Paul is most deserving of this recognition by his peers in the conference”, quoted Commissioner Dustin Wilke.
Dodson just finished his second year with the Seahawks where the athletic department claimed their fourth Commissioner’s Cup. Keiser also collected a third-place finish in the Learfield Director’s Cup.
“It’s an honor to be named this year’s Sun Conference Sports Information Director of the Year. I am fortunate to have an amazing staff and would not be where I am without their hard work. This honor is as much theirs as it is mine, stated Dodson. “I want to thank our campus President Dr. Gary Vonk and our Director of Athletics Kris Swogger for giving me the opportunity to work at Keiser. I am grateful for the support the administration has given our department. I also want to thank Commissioner Dustin Wilke and my peers in The Sun Conference. It’s humbling to know that the work we are doing is being noticed and appreciated.”
Dodson works to cover all of Keiser’s 26 sponsored varsity sports. The communications department has grown with every sport delivering a pregame and postgame article, post-game interviews, and game highlights. Keiser’s official athletics website is consistently in the top-10 for the monthly NAIA Sidearm Sports Top-Page Views.
“Paul has done an outstanding job building our Sports Information staff and in setting a high standard for all of our social media, stats, and media coverage. He is more than deserving of this award, and I could not be more excited for him receiving this honor”, said Keiser Director of Athletics, Kris Swogger.
Coverage for the Seahawks included 17 national championship runs with eight teams place top-3 and two national champions in men’s and women’s swimming. In conference action, nine teams claimed a conference crown, 142 student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Conference team, 189 made an All-Conference team and 154 were named an NAIA All-American.
As The Sun Conference Sports Information Director of the Year, Dodson will now be nominated for consideration for the national NAIA SID of the Year award.
