TAMPA, Fla. – The Sun Conference is thrilled to announce the addition of Esports in 2023-24 as the conference’s 24th sponsored sport.
“The Sun Conference is excited to enter the thriving world of collegiate Esports,” Sun Conference Commissioner
Dustin Wilke said. “This is an effort that has been ongoing for several years and it’s great to see it finally come to fruition. We are delighted to be able to provide another avenue for our conference members to compete.”
Eight teams will compete in the SUN in the upcoming 2024 spring season, including Florida Memorial, Keiser, Loyola New Orleans, LSU Shreveport, SCAD Savannah, Southeastern, St. Thomas, and Webber International.
The eight conference members will have the opportunity to compete in four games: League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Rocket League, and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate.
Esports is one of the newest, and fastest-growing, athletic programs in the country. When collegiate Esports began, just a handful of schools had varsity Esports programs. Now, there are over 400 colleges and universities in the U.S. that offer programs.
