TAMPA, Fla. (May 15, 2024) – Southeastern University wins the 2023-24 Sun Conference Commissioner’s Cup. The Fire reclaim the trophy after winning it three straight years (2018-19, 2020-21, 2021-22), scoring 200 points between their top five men’s and women’s sports. Keiser, last year’s champion, came in second with 176.6 points while St. Thomas came in third with 167.8 points.
 
“We are excited to award the 2023-24 Commissioner’s Cup Trophy to the Southeastern Fire,” Sun Conference Commissioner Dustin Wilke stated. “This achievement highlights an exceptional team effort, led by Athletics Director Drew Watson, alongside his committed staff, coaches, and student-athletes. It was another extremely competitive season in The Sun and we proudly celebrate the Fire for their successes this year.”

Top Five Men’s Sports

• Baseball (25 points) – The No. 1 nationally ranked Fire went nearly perfect in the regular season, dropping just two games, and swept the field in the conference tournament to claim their fifth-straight title.
• Men’s Cross Country (20 points) – Led by three-time Runner of the Year John Perez-Dunn, Southeastern earned their second consecutive championship after beating the rest of the field by nine points. All the Fire’s scored runners finished in the top-13 with three in the top-10.
• Men’s Golf (20 points) – SEU sat at third place after day 1 of this year’s championship before shooting 282 (-6) as a team in the third and final round. Surpassing Keiser and St. Thomas for the title, this marks the first for the Fire since 2013.  
• Men’s Indoor Track & Field (20 points) – Southeastern, the 2023 NAIA Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Champion, captured the conference title for the fourth time in the four-year history of the event by over 100 points.
• Men’s Outdoor Track & Field (20 points) – Since the Fire started the outdoor track & field program in 2019, they have won every title they have competed in. 

Top Five Women’s Sports

• Women’s Basketball (25 points) – Winning its eighth regular season title in nine years, Southeastern, led by Kiki Britzmann’s (Tournament MVP) 30 points, also claimed its seventh tournament title in nine seasons.
• Women’s Indoor Track & Field (20 points) – SEU earned its fourth-straight title in Gainesville as the Fire defeated the rest of the field by over 200 points.
• Women’s Outdoor Track & Field (20 points) – The Fire reigned supreme on the track once again as Irmiris Mendez was awarded the conference’s Most Valuable Performer Award for scoring 31 points over the two-day event.
• Women’s Soccer (15 points) – After finishing second in the regular season and falling in the Conference Tournament Championship, SEU earned an at-large bid and were the #15 seed in this year’s National Tournament.  
• Women’s Volleyball (15 points) – Southeastern finished the season as regular season runners-up, dropping just two conference matches, and completed the year with an overall record of 22-5.

Southeastern claimed 10 conference championships overall this year, with eight regular season titles and tournament titles in baseball and women's basketball.

Commissioner's Cup points are awarded in descending order to full TSC members based on regular-season standings in conference sports plus an additional five points to the conference tournament champion. The point allocation, regardless of the number of TSC members who sponsor the sport, will be 20 points for first place, 15 for second place, 12 points for third place, 10 points for fourth place, eight points for fifth place, seven points for sixth place, and so on.
 
The conference tournament champion for sports without regular season standings (M/W Cross Country, M/W Track and Field, and M/W Golf) received 20 points with the rest of the point allocations following the same format listed above; 15 for second place, 12 for third place, and so on. The points are then calculated by adding the top four men's finishes and the top four women's finishes for each full member school.
