TAMPA, Fla. - The Sun Conference announces its 2024 Men's Indoor Track & Field Specialty Award winners and All-Academic Teams sponsored by Barnes & Noble College.
Southestern's
James Williamson III earns the Most Outstanding Performer Award from the 2024 season. Williamson III scored 25 points to lead his team to their 5th consecutive Sun Conference Title. He won his first 100m conference title in 10.36 (-1.7) with the win coming over the #1 seed. He then won his first 200m conference title in 21.51 after running 21.42 in the prelims. Williamson III was the first leg on the conference championship 4x100 relay team that broke the conference record in 40.49. He ended the championships by running second leg on the conference championship 4x400 relay team 3:14.85.
Southeastern's
Phillip Clarke is this year's Champion of Character recipient. As stated by Head Coach Nick Dodson, "Phillip is the ultimate team player. He motivates his teammates, excellent in the classroom, earns the respect of upperclassmen, and helps staff in anyway needed. He films for our team during meet and in between events. He goes out of his way for any and everyone."
Nick Dodson of Southeastern also is the 2024 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year (COTY). Dodson, who started SEU's program in 2018, now earns his ninth COTY honor after leading the Fire to their fifth-straight SUN title on both the men's and women's side. The men's squad outscored the rest of the field by 86.5 points.
Qualifications for the All-Academic honor are:
1. The student must have been enrolled for two full semesters or more
2. The student must have a cumulative of at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale.
