TAMPA, Fla. – St. Thomas has been selected as the favorite to claim this year's Sun Conference Softball Regular Season Title as voted on by the league's head coaches in the 2025 Preseason Poll.
St. Thomas claims the top spot with 60 points and four first-place votes. As last year's SUN Tournament Champion, STU secured the league's automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament. The Bobcats' season ended in the opening round of the postseason, yet they concluded the year with a 40-12 overall record. They aim to build on last year's success and establish themselves as the team to beat this season.
Right behind them, Southeastern holds the second position with 57 points and three first-place votes. The Fire, last year’s Tournament Runners-Up, also qualified for the NAIA Tournament. SEU secured two victories on the big stage, defeating Missouri Baptist and Spring Arbor (Mich.), before falling short in the seventh game. The Fire concluded the year with a 40-19 overall record and a 14-7 record in conference play.
Coastal Georgia closely follows in third with 54 points and two first-place votes. The Mariners have won the league's last two Regular Season Championships and the 2023 Tournament Championship. After earning an at-large berth in last year's NAIA Tournament, CCGA notched three wins in the opening round and advanced to the Williamsburg Regional Championship before being eliminated. They aim to continue their recent dominance in the league in 2025.
Keiser lands in fourth place with 40 points. The Seahawks finished last year's regular season in fourth place with a 12-9 conference record and aim to remain a top team in the league.
Florida Memorial holds the fifth position with 33 points, having advanced to the SUN Tournament Semifinals last season. Webber International is ranked sixth with 28 points, followed by Warner with 24 points.
Ave Maria and New College of Florida round out the poll in seventh and eighth places, with 18 and 10 points respectively. The Mighty Banyans are poised to make their mark in their league debut.
Conference play begins Friday, March 7 with the conference tournament to begin Thursday, May 1. Scores for all games can be found on The Sun Scoreboard and stayed tuned in to SUN live action all season long on The Sun Digital Network.
