Ave Maria
Player to Watch
Michael Klekas
Senior | Elko, Nev. | Guard
Notes: Klekas is the reigning Sun Conference Tournament MVP and was one of Ave Maria’s three players named First Team All-Sun Conference. Within the program, Klekas is all over the AMU record book, being top 10 in program history in scoring average, field goals made, field goals attempted, three-pointers made, three-pointers attempted, free-throws attempted, total rebounds, defensive rebounds, offensive rebounds, steals, double-doubles, and minutes played. The big stat that should be focused on is points scored. Klekas currently ranks fifth in Ave Maria history with 1218 total points. He is 448 points away from being the all-time Gyrene scorer, passing Ave Maria Hall of Famer Kiel Lewis (2009-13) who finished his career with 1665. Over the last two seasons, Klekas averaged 474.5 points a season, so all he has to do is have an average year to break the record.
