Sun Conference Football Game of the Week: Warriors Face No. 20 Campbellsville in Cross-Conference Matchup

TAMPA, Fla. – The Sun Conference is excited to announce its first Football Game of the Week of the 2025 season. The Webber International Warriors will host the No. 20 Campbellsville University Tigers on Saturday, September 6th in a Sun Conference/Mid-South showdown.

As previously announced, this matchup is part of the scheduling alliance between The Sun Conference and the Mid-South Conference, and serves as the first cross-conference meeting for both teams.

Viewed as a must-watch non-conference matchup, the league will provide additional promotion and sideline coverage throughout the day. Fans can follow along on the league’s social media accounts by clicking the icons below.

Webber International Notes

  • Opened the season 1-0 with a win over NCAA Division I FCS opponent Stetson University, 31-21.
  • Junior quarterback Trent Grotjan led the team in both passing and rushing yards against Stetson.
  • ?The Warriors return much of last year’s offensive line, which powered a historic rushing season.
  • Punter Jaxson Rivera recorded seven punts for nearly 300 yards, pinning Stetson inside the 20-yard line four times.
  • Defensively, linebacker Caden Morrell scored on a fumble recovery, while Anthony Fuller posted a pick-six and a forced fumble en route to Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.
  • Eight players registered five or more tackles in the opener.

Campbellsville Notes

  • Opened the season 1-0 with a win over St. Francis (Ind.) and are currently ranked No. 20 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll.
  • ?Balanced offensive attack with 100+ rushing yards and 200+ passing yards in the opener.
  • Allowed three sacks to St. Francis.
  • Defense recorded six pass breakups against the Cougars.
  • Gave up roughly eight yards per play through the air.
  • Special teams contributed three punts inside the 20 and the game-winning field goal in a 31-28 victory.
