TAMPA, Fla. – The Sun Conference has announced the appointment of Scott Aronowitz as its new Football Coordinator of Officials, effective immediately.
“We are thrilled to add Scott to our team and look forward to his leadership amongst our football officials,” said Sun Conference Commissioner
Dustin Wilke. “Scott’s extensive experience and expertise in the field will position The Sun to consistently deliver the highest standards of officiating in every game.”
Aronowitz brings extensive experience at multiple levels of collegiate football and currently serves as a replay official in the NCAA Division I Big Ten Conference. He is also a former referee within The Sun Conference, giving him a strong understanding of the league and its continued growth as one of the top NAIA football conferences in the country.
In his new role as Football Coordinator of Officials, Aronowitz will oversee the recruitment, training, evaluation, supervision, and assignment of football officials across the conference, while serving as a liaison between member institutions and officiating crews. His responsibilities will focus on maintaining consistency in officiating mechanics and strengthening communication between officials, coaches, and administrators.
“It is a true honor and privilege to lead the tremendous officiating staff in the place where I began my collegiate officiating career, especially at a time when the conference is thriving,"
Aronowitz stated. "I am excited to share my passion for the game with the staff and the member institutions as we continue to strive for excellence.”
Since 2016, Aronowitz has served as co-director of the Gulf Atlantic Collegiate Football Officials Camp, an instructional and evaluation-based camp designed to help officials take the next step in their careers. In addition, he has served as an assignor for the Jacksonville Athletic Academy since 2021 and for River City Prep since 2023, and was appointed coordinator of officials for the Independent Collegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) last year.
The Sun Conference extends its sincere appreciation to former Football Coordinator of Officials John Smoot for his many years of service and dedication to the league and its membership.
