TAMPA, Fla. – The 2026 All-Sun Conference Men’s Tennis Teams and Specialty Award winners were announced Monday afternoon following a vote of the league’s eight head coaches.
Leading the specialty award winners, Keiser’s Shaheed Alam has been named the Sun Conference Player of the Year. Alam also earned Champions of Character honors, recognizing his impact both on and off the court.
Alam is currently ranked No. 2 nationally in both ITA singles and doubles rankings. He was the ITA Cup runner-up this past fall in both singles and doubles and remained undefeated in conference play at the No. 2 position. Overall, Alam posted an 18-2 record in singles and a 17-2 mark in doubles this season.
According to head coach Ali Borhani, “Not only is this young man the most respectful player I have ever had the pleasure of working with, but also the happiest and most grateful.” Borhani added that Alam “comes to every practice with 100% energy and positive attitude, which only rubs off on his teammates.” He also noted Alam’s leadership off the court, including founding PROJECT LOVE-ALL, a charitable initiative supporting children in Singapore, adding, “This young man has even made me as a coach look and handle situations differently. I have learned more from him than he has learned from me.”
Keiser’s Didrik Liljekvist and Matthew Dubas were named Doubles Team of the Year after anchoring the Seahawks’ lineup throughout the season. The duo went undefeated in NAIA doubles competition this year.
Southeastern’s Nikolas Kumria earned Freshman of the Year honors following a strong debut campaign for the Fire. Kumria went undefeated in conference play, competing at the No. 5 position (2-0, 4-0 overall) and No. 6 position (1-0, 5-0 overall). He helped lead Southeastern to a runner-up finish in the Sun Conference, as the Fire closed the regular season with a 14-3 overall record.
Ali Borhani was named Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm, guiding Keiser to an 11th consecutive Sun Conference Regular Season Championship with a perfect 7-0 conference mark and a 14-1 overall record. He also coached three All-Conference selections this season and will enter the postseason seeking the program’s 10th straight tournament championship.
