MIAMI, Fla. (February 23, 2022) – The 2021-22 All-Sun Conference Men’s Basketball Teams were announced on Wednesday as voted on by the league’s nine head coaches. This year’s teams feature 10 first-team selections and 10 second-team honorees.
Overall, nine different schools placed at least one player among the group of 20 that make up the first- and second-team all-conference units. This year’s teams are comprised of three graduate students, nine seniors, six juniors, and two freshmen.
St. Thomas led all teams with four all-conference honorees, including first-team selections
Jonas Parker, and
Dwayne Russell. Ave Maria had three all-conference honorees led by first-teamers
Eric Klekas and
Daryl Lewis. Southeastern also had three all-conference selections, including first-teamers
Jordan Gorman and
Riley Minix. Warner’s three all-conference honorees were highlighted by first-team selections
Joseph Martz and
Darryl Mercer.
Core’von Lott from Keiser was named to the first team along with Florida Memorial’s
Corey Benton.
The Sun Conference Specialty Awards for Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Rollie Massimino Coach of the Year, and Champion of Character will be announced Thursday.
The semifinals of the 2022 Sun Conference Men’s Basketball Championship will take place on Friday, February 25, from the Turner Athletic Center in Lake Wales, Florida. Semifinal number one, featuring the second-seeded Southeastern Fire versus Ave Maria will begin at 5:00 p.m. Game two, featuring top-seeded Warner versus Florida Memorial is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
