USCB’s Mitchell and FMU’s Gilmore Named 2021-22 Sun Conference Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Champions of Character

MIAMI, Fla. (February 4, 2022) – USCB’s Kadari Mitchell and Florida Memorial’s Jailyn Gilmore have been named this year’s Sun Conference Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Champion of Character award winners as voted on by the league’s eight head coaches.
 
Mitchell, a senior from Savannah, Georgia, has been a critical member of the track and field program at the University of South Carolina Beaufort for the past four years. He has been a team captain that has exemplified leadership. Mitchell led the team by being the first to volunteer for community service projects motivational speaking to the local youth at the Bluffton Boys and Girls club, Beach and River clean up in Bluffton, and volunteering at youth track and field clinics. He has continued to be an example of a true Student athlete by maintaining an outstanding 3.75 GPA for the fall. Mitchell has recently been accepted to both Villanova and Georgetown for graduate school. He in a national qualifier in the 60m and 200m as well as an All-American in both the 60m and 200m.
 
Jailyn Gilmore, a senior from Jacksonville, Floria, has been an outstanding student-athlete on Florida Memorial University’s track and field team. She has been a NAIA conference qualifier throughout all four of her years of attendance. Gilmore is a dependable leader, stepping up to help wherever needed, whether helping with new transfer student-athletes, assisting with team gear/equipment, or taking on other tasks needed to help her team. In addition to her contributions on the track, she has been named to the Dean’s List ever semester at FMU, earning a 3.6 cumulative GPA while majoring in elementary education/ESE. She has displayed phenomenal dedication, integrity, and character through many challenges in her NAIA experience. Gilmore treats her teammates and classmates with respect and understanding and is loved by both equally. Upon graduation, she plans on becoming a kindergarten or first-grade teacher where she can continue to impact the lives of others.
 
The 2021-22 Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship is set for Monday, February 7. From the Brimingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama, this year’s championship is scheduled to begin a 9:00 a.m. (ET) with the men’s and women’s long jump, the men’s and women’s weight thrown, the men’s and women’s shot put, and the women’s 4x800m relays.
