SEU Women's Track Dominant in Third-Straight SUN Indoor Title Performance

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Southeastern racked up 266 points and nearly triple its nearest competition in winning its third consecutive Sun Conference Indoor Track and Field championship on Monday.
 
The Fire won six of the 19 events and had a total of 26 all-conference performances, which is finishing in the top three of an event.
 
"We figured if they came out and did the things we knew they could do, they had a chance to run away with it," said coach Nick Dodson. "I'm really proud of how they came together and everything fired at the right times."
 
The Fire swept the podium in the 60 Hurdles with Tenae Grigsby taking gold in 8.94 seconds, followed by Irmiris Mendez in 9.07, and Amaya Kier at 9.2. Mendez turned around 10 minutes later and took second in the 60 Meters in 7.63 seconds.
 
"I don't even know how I did it," said Mendez. "I just asked God for strength, it was difficult, but we did it. I didn't PR, but I really surprised myself."
 
Mendez also ran third leg of the 4x400 Relay, which took first in a meet record time of 3:54.74 with Grigsby, Oluwafikayomi Lawrence, and Namiah Simpson.
 
Lawrence took third in the 200 in a time of 25.23, and in the 400 in 58.53. Simpson was first in the 400 in 57.25.
 
The Fire claimed second and third in the 1000 Meters with Emma Woltjer finishing in 3:10.21 and Jillian Blaser in 3:14.92. Natalie Rohm added a runner-up finish in the 600 Meters in 1:45.84. Madison Lilienthal was third in the 5000 Meters in 19:28.
 
Julia Rohm won the 3000 Meters in a meet record time of 10:19.85, and was the runner up in the mile in 5:12.61. Grace Feder was third in 5:29.58.
 
Blaser, Kaitlyn Vorkapich, Rohm, and Rohm won the 4x800 Relay in a time of 9:55. Kathy MacedoAmari GrahamNatalie Rohm, and Feder were second in the Distance Medley Relay in 13:38.
 
Natalie Rohm was the Freshman of the Year, racking up 16.5 points.
 
In the field, Victoria Morris was the runner-up in the High Jump, clearing 1.51 meters. Graham won the Pole Vault, clearing 2.35 meters.
 
Miyah Ford took third in the Long Jump at 5.08 meters and in the Triple Jump at 11.25 meters.
 
MarieAnge Moussignac was second in the Weight Throw at 13.7 meters.

The 43rd Annunal NAIA Women's Indoor Track annd Field National Championship is set for March 2-4, 2023 at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, South Dakota.
