Keiser Tabbed to Win Sixth Straight SUN Title

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 17, 2023) – Keiser University has been selected to win the 2023 Sun Conference Women’s Tennis Regular Season title as voted upon the leagues seven head coaches. Teams are not allowed to vote for themselves.

The Seahawks have been in the NAIA semifinals for the last five seasons, placing second in four of those appearances (2018-22). KU has not lost a conference match since the 2017 season, coming into the 2023 season on a 33-match win streak against SUN opponents. Violet Apisah also claimed the program’s first ITA Cup Women's Singles National Championship defeating her own teammate in the fall season.

Keiser received six of the seven eligible first-place votes for a total of 36-points in the top slot. Right behind was SCAD-Savannah who received the final first place vote and tallied 29-points. The Bees are consistently in the NAIA Top-10, ending last season ranked sixth.

Southeastern and St. Thomas come next as the two with the Fire edging out the Bobcats at third with 25 points. STU collected 20 points and were slotted fourth. Both teams were in the Top-15 at the end of 2022 with SEU at 14 and STU at 15 after their sweet-1 appearances.

Ave Maria is right on the tails with 19-points earned and selected to finish fifth. The Gyrenes also made a national tournament appearance and finished 18th in the national poll. Coastal Georgia and Warner round it out at sixth and seventh with 12 points and six points, respectively.

The national poll will come out on Wednesday, January 25 as we await where some our SUN teams will land. Another competitive season is on the cusp with teams hitting the court this weekend and official next Wednesday.
