SUN Players of the Week - October 6, 2025

TAMPA, Fla. – The Sun Conference announces the players of the week for men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball for the week of October 6, 2025.

All 14 awards are based on performances from September 29 – October 5.
 


Football Players of the Week


Defensive Player of the Week

Fernando Jeanty, Florida Memorial

Freshman | North Miami Beach, Fla. | Defensive Lineman

Notes: Jeanty led the FMU defense to a massive upset over No. 10 Southeastern in the conference opener. He led the team in tackles with eight, along with a pair of sacks, and four tackles for loss, causing fits for the Fire all game long.

Dillon Simon, Keiser

Senior | Lake Charles, La. | Running Back

Notes: Dillon Simon rushed for a career-high 152 yards on just seven carries, scoring twice in Keiser's win over Thomas (Ga.), 49-3. His performance included an 85-yard touchdown run - the second-longest in program history - as part of a record-setting day for the Seahawks' ground game. Averaging 21.7 yards per carry, Simon helped the Seahawks produce a program-best 398 yards on the ground to go along with the school record for total offense (692 yards). On the year, Simon has rushed for 232 yards on 15 carries with three touchdowns, averaging 15.5 yards per carry and over 77 yards per contest.

Freshman | Tampa, Fla. | Return

Notes: Johnson ran to the races against Warner, turning in an 85-yard kickoff return touchdown to put the Warriors ahead after a Warner score, he returned two other kicks, ending the day with 136 return yards and an average of 45 yards per return.

Jayleen Santiago, New College of Florida

Senior | Miami, Fla. | Outside Hitter

Notes: Santiago posted a season-high 30 kills in NCF's 3-2 victory over Weber and then had 14 in a 3-1 win over Keiser to finish the week with 44 kills. She added four service aces on the week.

Senior | Sao Paulo, Brazil | Defensive Specialist

Notes: Luiza Barreis had 35 digs in a 3-2 win over Webber and 13 in a 3-1 victory over Webber. She had 29 receptions on the week and did not commit an error.


Setter of the Week

Junior | Celina, Ohio | Setter

Notes: Averaged double-digit assists over 12 set behind a 10.50 rate... recorded a pair of double-doubles at Florida College (47 assists, 12 digs) and Southeastern (42 assists, 10 digs).

Defensive Player of the Week

Tim Rothe, SCAD Savannah

Junior | Herzogenaurach, Germany | Defender

Notes: Rothe led a Bees' defense that allowed only one shot on goal, and a total of three shots, as the Junior played the entire 90 minutes. Rothe launched an unstoppable shot from distance, curling the ball into the top right corner from outside the penalty area for his first goal of the season, and what turned out to be the game-winner.

Notes: Johnson recorded his first career hat-trick in a 5-1 victory over Webber and also had an assist in the victory. The freshman now has 10 goals on the season.

Freshman | Parrish, Fla. | Goalkeeper

Notes: Wright set a program record with 19 saves, many of which being highlight reel in NCF's close 2-0 loss to No. 1 Keiser. She then earned her first career win with a five-save performance in a 4-3 win at Webber Saturday.

Senior | Staffordshire, England | Forward

Notes: A late brace for Lauren Riley led the Seahawks to a Sun Conference win over New College of Florida. Riley's first goal came in the 76th minute when she broke the back line and chipped the keeper. Her second goal came 10 minutes later after her teammate found her open in the box. Riley's two goals move her one goal behind the team lead for the season. Keiser's 35 shots are the most since they put 35 up on Warner on Senior Day last season.

Junior | Westminster, Colo.

Notes: Heins was SCAD's top finisher. Placing 23rd at the NCAA DI Fire Tower Project on Friday. The Junior led the Bees to a seventh-place finish in the NCAA DI heavy field of 11.


Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Junior | Hollidaysburg, Pa.

Notes: Manfred was SCAD's top finisher in the 6K, placing 25th in the field of 109 with a time of 22:25.9.

Men's Golfer of the Week

Ty Kaufman, Ave Maria

Senior | Naples, Fla.

Notes: Ty Kaufman won his first tournament of the season and the second of his career at the Invite at Innisbrook last week. Kaufman was tied for first after the first round, but after an amazing bogey-free second round, was five strokes ahead of the next golfer. He never gave up his first place spot in the third round, securing the tournament win. Kaufman carded nine birdies across the three rounds and 41 pars.



 

Women's Golfer of the Week

Sophomore | Shenzhen, Guangdong, China

Notes: Luo, who continued her impressive fall season with a standout third-place finish individually, led the Bees to a third-place finish at the Invite at Innisbrook. The Sophomore's second-round score of 67 was the lowest of the round.
