2025 Women's Soccer Specialty Award Winners Announced

TAMPA, Fla. – The Sun Conference has announced its specialty award winners for the 2025 women’s soccer season.

Keiser’s Lauren Riley has been named both The Sun Conference Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year. Riley led the league in points (28), points per game (3.5), goals (11), and goals per game (1.38), while ranking second in assists (6). Her performance helped the Seahawks finish as regular season runners-up and the team enters the postseason ranked No. 3 in the NAIA.

SCAD Savannah’s Lois Beer has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Year. Beer anchored a SCAD defense that allowed the fewest goals in conference play, surrendering just four with a 0.51 goals-against average. She started every match for the Bees during the 2025 season.

St. Thomas goalkeeper Isabella Penaranda has earned the Golden Glove award, recognizing her as the league’s top goalkeeper. Penaranda led the conference in overall save percentage (.855) and ranked second in conference play (.857), recording five shutouts during league competition.

St. Thomas freshman Julia Ezcurra has been named Freshman of the Year. Ezcurra finished the regular season with eight goals and three assists, ranking eighth in total points. In conference play, she recorded three goals and two assists and was named to the Second Team All-Conference.

Ave Maria’s Betsy Laville receives the Champion of Character award. Laville is recognized for exemplifying the NAIA’s Five Core Values both on and off the field. A dependable leader within the program, she has served her teammates and campus community through mentorship, academics, and faith-based initiatives.

According to Ave Maria Head Coach Tyler Rosser, Laville’s influence extends well beyond competition. “Betsy represents the heart of our program,” said Rosser. “She consistently volunteers in campus ministry, serves with local youth programs, and invests deeply in her teammates. Whether it’s helping a first-year player adjust, organizing team study sessions, or assisting at campus events, she leads with humility and purpose. Her dedication to serving others and doing things the right way embodies what this award stands for.”

Southeastern Head Coach Skelly Kellar has been selected as the Coach of the Year after leading the Fire to their first Sun Conference Regular Season Title since 2020. In his first season at the helm, Kellar guided Southeastern to the No. 1 seed in the 2025 Sun Conference Women’s Soccer Championship and coached seven student-athletes to All-Conference recognition. The Fire enter the postseason ranked No. 15 in the NAIA.
