Southeastern's Uchenna Kanu Named NAIA Women's Soccer Player of the Year

Kanu leads a total of six (out of 11) NAIA first-team All-Americans from the Sun; national champion Keiser leads the way with four first-team selections

TAMPA, Fla.— Southeastern’s record-setting senior forward Uchenna Kanu has been named the NAIA Women’s Soccer Player of the Year. Kanu joins four players from The Sun Conference and NAIA Champion Keiser Seahawks, as well as one of her teammates, on the NAIA All-America First Team. That gives the Sun’s first and second-place teams a total of six of the 11 first-team NAIA selections.

Kanu earned her first NAIA Player of the Year honor after one of the most storied collegiate careers in NAIA history. The senior completed her time at Southeastern as the all-time NAIA career leader in goals (157) and points (366).

Overall, national champion Keiser joined William Carey (Miss.) and Southeastern at the top of the NAIA list with four honorees on the top three teams. Keiser led all institutions with four, first-team selections.

Joining Kanu on the first team were her Fire teammate Aisha Solorzano (Jr., MF) and Keiser players Filippa Millqvist (Sr., MF), Maja Henriksson (Fr., D), Matilda Ovenberger (So., F) and Nina Haeberlin (Jr., GK).

Southeastern’s sisters Bania Duran (Sr., MF) and Isamar Duran (Gr., D) each were named to the Third Team.

Six more players from The Sun Conference garnered Honorable Mention All-America accolades. That group was led by The Sun Conference Player of the Year Savannah Jackson (Jr., F) from Johnson & Wales. Three more Keiser players made the list, including Emma Holmskov (Jr., MF), Kyoka Koshijma (So., MF), and Ronja Henrikkson (Fr., MF). Also earning Honorable Mention recognition were Southeastern’s Holly Eddins (So., GK) and USC-Beaufort’s Anna Gignilliat (Sr., F).
