2021 Sun Conference Women’s Soccer Awards Announced

MIAMI, Fla. (November 8, 2021) – The Sun Conference announced on Monday its award winners for the 2021 women’s soccer season.
 
For the second straight year, Keiser’s Maja Henriksson was named the Sun Conference Player of the Year. Garnering First-Team All-Sun Conference honors for her third year in a row, Henriksson started in eight conference games for the Seahawks. The native of Gothenburg, Sweden, scored six goals and two assists for 14 points in league action. Henriksson anchored a defense that has posted six shutouts. She has registered two game-winning goals during the 2021 season.
 
SCAD Savannah’s Sydney Chura was named the Sun Conference Freshman of the Year. A First-Team All-Sun Conference selection, Chura leads the conference in points (22) and goals scored (9) in league action this season. She also added four assists versus Sun Conference foes. The Milford, Michigan, native notched three game-winning goals (tied for the league lead) in conference play and was named the Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week on October 4.
 
Keiser’s Mat Dunn was named the Sun Conference Coach of the Year. In his 11th season with the Seahawks, Dunn guided Keiser 14-1-0 record in 2021 and a 9-0-0 mark in league action. Claiming the program’s 16th regular season crown (ninth with Dunn as the head coach). Having won 10 straight matches, the Seahawks enter this year’s conference tournament ranked No. 2 in the nation.
 
St. Thomas’ Karina Medina was named the Sun Conference Champion of Character. Medina is a biology major with a 3.9 GPA. She works and oversees Zebra Neuroscience and Behavioral research. She also does research on effect of natural products on breast cancer migration.  Medina also gives back to the students at STU by running the tutoring program for the science majors. She also serves as a team captain for the Bobcat soccer team, leading the squad on and off the field
