MIAMI, Fla. (September 1, 2022) – The SCAD-Savannah Bees were voted to go back-to-back as Sun Conference Women’s Cross Country champions as voted among the league’s head coaches. No institution was allowed to vote for their own.
The Bees were the highest point getters with 48 and earned six of the eight first-place votes. The 2021 season had the Bees with both the team championship and individual title, while also placing three in the top five. SCAD-Savannah is currently amongst those receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches’ Top-25 Poll.
Southeastern came in second with 42-points and earned the final two first-place votes. The Fire had four of their five countable runners finish with the top ten, sending two to the NAIA National Championship. Ave Maria rounds out the top three with a projected third place finish. The Gyrenes tallied 39 points and also had two individual national qualifiers in the 2021 season.
Thomas comes into the poll at fourth with 30 points, Keiser follows behind with 26 points at fifth and St. Thomas picked up 18 points to finish sixth. Warner (13 points) and Webber International (eight points) closed out the poll in seventh and eighth, respectively.
The Cross Country season is set to begin with all teams going this weekend. The Sun Conference Championship race will take place in Savannah, Ga. on Saturday, November 5, 2022.
