2024-25 Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Postseason Award Winners Announced

TAMPA, Fla. – The Sun Conference announces its postseason award winners for the 2024-25 men's and women's indoor track & field season.
 
On the men's side, Southeastern's Davien Worrels was named this year's Most Outstanding Performer and honored as the championship's Most Valuable Performer. For the second consecutive year, Worrels earned these accolades and won gold in his three individual events. In the 400-meter dash, he recorded a time of 47.78 seconds, meeting the 'A' standard for qualification and securing the 9th-fastest time in the NAIA. Worrels also claimed the Conference Championship titles in the 200m and 600m with times of 21.22 seconds and 1:20.65, respectively. His 200m performance set a new Conference Championship record and met the NAIA 'A' standard, while his 600m time met the 'B' standard, both ranking as the 10th-fastest in the country. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in leading the 4x400-meter relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 3:13.19, the fifth-fastest nationally.
 
On the women's side, Irmiris Mendez was named the Most Outstanding Performer for the second consecutive year. Mendez amassed 40.5 points during the championship weekend and was also honored as the event's Most Valuable Performer. She clinched first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.66 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 24.69 seconds, and the 400-meter run in 57.24 seconds. Her performances in the 60-meter hurdles and the 400-meter run set new conference records. Additionally, she contributed to the mixed 4x400-meter relay team's gold medal in its inaugural year. Her times in the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash rank as the eighth-best in the NAIA, with all her recorded times meeting the NAIA ‘B’ standard for qualification.
 
Nick Dodson of Southeastern earned both the men's and women's Coach of the Year awards after leading the squads to their fifth-straight titles in the five-year history of the event. Fire men totaled 283.50 points while the women's squad dominated the rest of the field, tallying 248 points and 90 points more than the runner-up.
 
The Men's Champion of Character honoree is Webber's Derrick Gomez. His Head Coach, Mike Mangan, stated, "Even as just a sophomore, Gomez is one of the leaders of our program. He is a strong voice in our school and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)." Additionally, Gomez dedicates his free time to volunteer at his former high school and recently assisted in designing and measuring a new cross country course on campus.
 
The Women's Champion of Character honoree is Keiser's Daniela Torres Logrono. Having moved from Riobamba, Ecuador in the spring of 2024, Torres Logrono quickly established a home and community in West Palm Beach. She has volunteered at high school track meets, conducted surveys, supported leukemia and lymphoma foundations, and contributed to a Thanksgiving food drive. Torres Logrono states that a major goal of hers is to strive for excellence in everything she does, whether on the track, in the classroom, or in her community, all while uplifting those around her. Additionally, she has earned a place on Keiser’s President’s and Dean’s lists.

Yanis Le Mouillour of Keiser's men's indoor track and field team and Alyssa Morley of Southeastern's women's indoor track and field team were honored as the 2024-25 Freshmen of the Year on-site at this year's championship. They received these accolades for being the top-scoring freshmen of the meet.
